Wii want to play

Last December, a group of 12 French students from Year 9 took part in an exciting language and technology project with pupils at Dulwich College. The event was one of many organised by teachers and pupils in the Southwark Schools Learning Project (SSLP). The aim was to pilot different ways of making language-learning accessible via the types of technology used by young people nowadays: computers, DS consoles, Playstation, Wii etc. In mixed teams of four, the groups completed a carrousel of activities in French, such as creating a theme park, designing and describing a Mii, racing in Mario Cart or completing a mission in Medal of Honour. The winning team each received an HMV gift card worth £10. Tout le monde s’est bien amusé!

In the words of Aminata: “I made friends with two of the students – Eliot and Angus. They were very helpful boys. They were also really friendly so it was easy for Joyce and me to get to know them. … The activities were very good …and included a series of computer challenges. Even though my team didn’t win, I enjoyed my time at Dulwich College and would be willing to go there again any time!”
