Key Stage 3

Year 7 Curriculum

In Year 7 the curriculum stimulates an interest in and a sense of wonder about places. It helps young people make sense of a complex changing world. We study where places are, how places and landscapes are formed and how people and their environment interact. Pupils study the impact of flooding on people, learn how to use and interpret maps, learn about the damaging affects fossil fuels are having on the world and possible alternatives we could use, how we can forecast weather and where our clothes come from.

Year 8 Curriculum

In year 8 we focus more on how the world and peoples lives, now and in the future, are influenced and are changing. Pupils study importance and threats to our world in terms of Global Warming, discuss causes and consequences of deforestation, study the reasons why our earth is unstable with relation to volcanoes & earthquakes, and how the lives of people are affected. Students discover where our food comes from and the impact that importing food has on our planet. They also study global crime issues.

Year 9 Curriculum

In preparation for year 10, geography encourages deeper questioning and enquiring and critical thinking about issues affecting the world and people's lives. Pupils are further encouraged to be global citizens by exploring their own place in the world, their own values and responsibilities to others and the environment. Pupils study a range of issues including importance and threats to rainforests/deforestation, discuss racial and ethnic issues relating to immigration and asylum, debt amongst poorer countries, conflict diamonds, tourism and disease.
