Young Consumer of the Year Competition 2013

The Young Consumer award group continues to go from strength to strength. The year started off with our Y11 team of Hanaa Lakdhari, Ferdus Aktha, Manal Gabache and Jamilla Dob Johnson (who got through to the national finals last year) beating peers and MP’s in a competition at the Houses of Parliament run by the Financial Ombudsman and Trading Standards.

The new Y10’s started SSSO’s bid to reach the national final of the Young Consumer of the Year Award with a convincing win over Sacred Heart in the Southwark Final.  Twenty Y10 students have turned up weekly to learn and practice their knowledge of consumer rights, financial awareness, how to be healthy and general knowledge. This allowed four teams to compete. The winners Fatheha Shaid, Lydia Frank, Catherine Nkaa and Sharon Darkwa (all in 10 Orange) beat the opposition in an impressively cool manner to go through to the London Finals being held at the O2 Arena in March. They are bidding to reach the national final for the third year in a row. My thanks go to Dave and Yemesi from Trading Standards who have coached the group weekly.
