Updated information about NUT Strike - Tuesday 5th July
We have been informed by the National Union of Teachers, that they will be taking industrial action in the form of a strike on Tuesday 5th July 2016. This action is not against the school itself but is part of national industrial action organised by this trade union about school funding and the deregulation of national pay and conditions.
There is no requirement on unions to inform us of which members of staff will take action, and it may be that they will not know themselves as there is no obligation on members of unions to obey a strike call. However, a number of staff have indicated that they are likely to take part in this strike action. Neither the governing body nor the headteacher is legally allowed to close the school ‘in sympathy’ with the strike and we will not do so. Our main concern is the safety of our students.
Arrangements for the day have been complicated by the range of additional activities already organised for this week. We intend to run the Year 7 activities as planned. The Year 9 Kessingland beach trip will continue as will the language trips to Barcelona, Berlin and Paris. The Year 10 Health and Social Care placements will continue as planned and all of Year 12 will be “living their subject” off site as planned.
School will be closed to the remainder of students in Years 8, 9 and 10.
Usual timings will be kept for the Year 7 students in school.
